Kona was a trooper and his recuperation was a marvel, a testament to the skill of the surgeon’s hands. It took 3 days for him to give us a ‘deposit’ and we cheered like he had just won a sporting trophy. The best part was no sign of incontinence.
Each day we walked further, he was able to go to the bathroom without too much strain, going up and down the stairs became a non issue. I just kept shaking my head in disbelief at his strength and fortitude.
They had used dissolving suchers, so no trip to the vet or college was required to remove them – a small merscy since that would be the last place Kona would want to go.
The surgeon confirmed that a course of radiation would probably be fruitless and to just enjoy whatever time was left. The tumour would be back and no one could say how soon, we were on borrowed time.
